BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The ArtinMe. exhibition committee has announced that Connie Hayes, described by a news release as a “highlyregarded, award-winning artist and art educator,” will be the judge of this year’s show.
ArtinMe. is a state-wide juried exhibition; a fresh and selective look at the art being done by Maine artists today showing originality and skill in painting, drawing and sculpture media. Monetary and item prizes will be awarded. ArtinMe. is produced and presented by the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.
Entries will be taken Tuesday, Oct. 9, from noon to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. There is a limit of three entries per artist. Art should be delivered to the Boothbay Region Art Foundation, 1 Townsend Ave., diagonally across the street from the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library.
A news release describes Hayes as follows:
Connie Hayes lives in Rockland, and is represented by the highly-regarded Dowling Walsh Gallery also in Rockland. She is a painter’s painter with an eye for out-ofthe ordinary composition; and lavishly paints with a highly-charged palette. She received her master of fine arts degree from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, and Rome; a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Maine College of Art; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine.
For 10 years, Hayes taught at the Maine College of Art, and participated in its arts administration for 15 years, which included serving as interim dean of faculty. She lived and worked in New York City from 1992 to 1998. Since 1990, her pursuit has been “borrowed views,” as she paints and actually lives in the homes of other people as an artist-in-residence. Recently, she has been working on a group of figurative paintings that focuses on color and gesture.
