BRUNSWICK — Sherry Ballou Hanson of Portland, Oregon, formerly of Brunswick, Maine, has won the Paumanok Poetry Award, presented annually by Farmingdale State College on Long Island, New York. The award is $1,500 and an expensespaid trip in November 2015 to give a reading at the college.

Sherry has been publishing her nonfiction and poetry for over 30 years and in 2013 won a MORE Award for reporting excellence, given annually by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. She traveled to Washington D.C. to receive that award. She taught for various adult education programs beginning in Illinois, then in Maine, where she also taught personal enrichment workshops for the University of Maine System. In 2013 she and her husband moved to Oregon to be near one of their sons and his family.

Hanson continues to freelance for magazines and webzines and to write poetry. She cooperatively published her collection of poetry, “A Cab to Stonehenge” in 2006 with Nancy Randolph of Just Write Books in Topsham, Maine.
