POWNAL — John V. Di Pietro, 52, of Pownal, Maine, died on January 11, 2013, after a courageous struggle with brain cancer. He chose to return to the Mohawk Valley of New York to his childhood home for his final days. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Spencer) Di Pietro, and his mother Kathleen Di Pietro. He was predeceased by his father, John Di Pietro.

He graduated from Syracuse University School of Engineering, Magna cum Laude in 1985 as a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. His brothers remained lifelong friends and supported him throughout his illness. He obtained an MS Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and spent nearly twenty years with Wright-Pierce in Topsham as a Project Engineer. His coworkers at Wright-Pierce provided material and emotional support.

His greatest extramural passion was lacrosse. He played for men’s leagues during and after college. He also coached Brunswick Youth Lacrosse for ten years before the 7th and 8th grade program became a junior high school sport. He loved to hike, bike and cross country ski as well as play bagpipes. His cats were constant companions at home.

A funeral mass was celebrated at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Whitesboro, NY on January 14, 2013 and he was interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery there. There will also be a Memorial Service at a date to be determined for his New England family and friends.
