Snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, dogsledding, winter tracking are some of Winter’s most enjoyable activities. and the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association knows it. Now, they’re helping kids get rid of the cold weather blues with their Winter Youth Field Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 1.
The Field Day is organized in a series of one hour segments that give kids the opportunity to snowshoe and ski along wooded trails, track deer, bobcat and fox in the snow and ride on and perhaps even drive a dogsled. In addition to the outdoor sports activities, educational demonstrations give kids the opportunity to meet a police department search dog, and perhaps even try their skills at hiding from one. They will also learn about taking care of themselves outdoors in the winter.
For the snowshoeing and skiing activities, loaner equipment will be available or kids may bring their own.
Winter Youth Field Day is held at the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association’s Outdoor Education Center on Route 209, Main Road in Phippsburg. Lunch will be provided and there is no charge for the Day. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
