DURHAM — Debbie Emerson, 56, died in her home surrounded by family Monday, Feb. 18, 2013.

She was born Dec. 23, 1956, in Montague City, MA, a daughter of Joseph Welcome and Thelma Shaw. Her childhood was spent in Massachusetts until her family moved to Maine. She graduated from Freeport High School, class of ’75. She married Laurence Emerson in Durham on Sept. 24, 1975.

She was a loving wife and mother. She had worked several years at Eastland Shoe in Freeport before its closing and was most recently employed at the Freeport Nursing Home.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Durham; a son, Zachary Emerson and his wife, Shannon of Sabattus; a daughter, Heather Emerson-Mains of Durham; two brothers, Thomas Welcome of Durham, and Jeffrey Welcome of Starks; a sister, Carol Wickline of Durham; her mother, Thelma Marston and her husband, Earl of Texas; and five grandchildren, Caleb, Kyleigh, Chelsea, Jonathon and Jordon.

Friends and family can visit from noon to

1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Durham. Condolences and memories can be expressed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
