TOPSHAM — Carroll “Sammy” Brillant, 76, passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the VA medical center in Togus following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sammy was born in Brunswick on March 21, 1936, the son of Eudor and Mildred Goodnow Brillant.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Sammi’jo Brillant; his sister, Linda Walton; and brothers, Tommy Brillant, Buddy Brillant and Tim Brillant. He is survived by his longtime companion, Melda Dall; and his children, Bobby, Cheri, David, Darry, Jerry, Dottie, Sam and Heaven; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis Brillant; and sisters Hilda Card, Nancy Alexander, Beverly Eastman and Jerri Dempster.
Sammy was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served on active duty from June 1953 to November 1955. He survived two tours of duty in Korea and received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was proud of his service and was a Marine to the very end.
He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 202 and VFW Post 2197 in Topsham. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, country music and all New England sports teams. Later in life he enjoyed spending time working his booth at the flea market in Fort Andross.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held in the spring.
