Whit was a World War II veteran and a retiree from Bath Iron Works. He was a member of Bath Elks, Eagles and Smith- Tobey Post. A lifelong sports fan, Whit coached many Bath boys in baseball, including Pony League, Little League and Babe Ruth League. He also loved hockey and devoted much time to playing, refereeing, making ice, etc.
Whit was active in retirement, tending to home repairs and improvements and growing vegetables with his wife in the backyard garden. He enjoyed playing golf in the Senior League and Colonial Club League at the Bath Country Club. Visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special delight for him.
Whit is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Craige, Marie Shepard and her husband,
Charles, Jeanette Lane and her husband, Dana; brothers, Clifton “Jim” Craige, Edwin Craige, J. Herbert Craige and his wife, Phyllis, and Myron “Mick” Craige and his wife, Frances; and nephew Charles “Bud” Shepard.
He leaves behind a wife, Marion of Bath; daughters, Susan Craige of Bath and Anne Koteras of Hitchcock, Texas; a son, John Craige of Lisbon Falls; nephews, Craig Lane and his wife, Betsy of Georgetown, Charles Shepard III, Scott Shepard and Peter Shepard; nieces, Gail Woods and her husband, Rick of Virginia, Carol Marshall and her husband, David of Bath, Janice Singer and her husband, Steve of Massachusetts, Linda Graham and her husband, Rick of Lisbon, Betty Shepard of Bath, and Mary Lewis and her husband, Gary of Maine; and many grandnieces and -nephews, greatgrandnieces and -nephews, and grand- and great-grandchildren.
Whit’s wishes were to not have a funeral or memorial service.
