HARPSWELL — Cultural Homestay International needs cultural exchange host families.
Margo and Jane Almeida, sisters-in-law and and each a retired grandmother, head the small but determined organization based on Bailey Island.
School Administrative District 75, Regional School Unit 5 and THE Brunswick School District each accept up to five exchange students per year. Homes also are needed in Yarmouth, Wiscasset and Rockland.
“It just needs to be a loving family with a spare bedroom, and they have to want the experience,” Margo Almeida said.
Each host family must undergo a background check, and the students are high school-aged, so transportation and meals are required.
The Almeidas will have a booth at the Friday farmer’s market on the Brunswick Mall through through July.
