BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Downtown Association ( BDA) will host its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony from 5 p. m. to 7 p. m. Friday on the Brunswick Mall. Caroling will begin at 4:30 p.m.

“Thanks to generous donations of time, effort and materials, a temporary tree has been erected for the event and will be decorated for the holidays,” a BDA release states.

Kathy and Ned Harding of Brunswick donated the 40- foot balsam fir, and members of Brunswick Public Works Department assisted with the transportation.

“ Tim Vail of Vail’s Tree Service donated his time to cut the tree, assisted in setting it in its new position on the Mall and will also help decorate the tree,” the release states.

Harry S. Crooker and Sons donated use of a crane to position the tree. Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department workers helped position it.

Friday’s ceremony will include horse and carriage rides, a community sing-along, hot chocolate and cookies, as well as visits from Santa and Frosty the Snowman.

Decorations for the tree are provided by the Village Improvement Association with help from the BDA. In addition, the BDA sponsors the holiday lighting and adornments displayed along Maine Street.

The decorations are funded solely through private donations. Individuals or businesses wishing to contribute to the holiday decoration fund can make a tax- deductible donation by mailing a check to the BDA at P. O. Box 15, Brunswick, ME 04011 or by visiting www.brunswickdowntown.com/Holiday-Decorations Donations.
