ON THANKSGIVING DAY, two eighth-grade Brunswick Junior High School students, Shelby Cash and Julia Casey, represented Brunswick Cheerleading by marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, which was broadcast on abc6.com out of Philadelphia.
BRUNSWICK — Midcoast Squirt Black hosted Lewiston on Saturday afternoon, with Lewiston coming away with a 4-2 victory.
James Singleton and Alec Hess were the goal scorers for Midcoast, while Cade Charron manned the net and Henry Burnham played outstanding defense.
Long Reach swimmers shine
BATH — The Long Reach Swim Club of the Bath Area Family YMCA defeated Twins Cities 809-347 last Saturday.
In the meet, Joey Blair had a YMCA national cut-off time swim in the 100 butterfly (53.40), Celia Ouellette had a YMCA national cut-off time swim in the 100 free (53.89) and Caitlin Tycz set a girls 11- 12 team record in the 100 free (56.38), breaking Jessica Russell’s time of 56.65.
Sea Dogs to host Holiday at Hadlock
PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs, in partnership with 99.9 FM The WOLF, is scheduled to host the inaugural Holiday at Hadlock on Saturday from 10 a. m. to 2 p.m.
The Sea Dogs will turn the place of summer memories into a winter wonderland. The free event, open to the public, will be highlighted by Santa’s arrival from the North Pole.
Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at Hadlock Field from the North Pole via Elf One, a helicopter owned and operated by Tree Top Travelers LLC., at 11:30 a.m. Santa will then be available to meet with children until 2 p.m..
The Sea Dogs will also offer free horse drawn carriage rides around the field, courtesy of Carousel Horse Farm in Casco. A craft room will also be available where fans will be able to decorate gameused baseballs, turning them into unique Christmas tree ornaments. Fans will also be able to create holiday cards and play holiday games.
The event is free, but the Sea Dogs encourage fans attending to bring a toy donation for the Toys for Tots program. A truck, provide by Southern Maine Motors, will be parked outside the stadium to collect donations.
Additionally, fans will be able to get a head start on their holiday shopping as both the Sea Dogs’ Ticket Office and Souvenir Shop will be open to allow fans to give the gift of summer this winter.
Sea Dog ticket prices remain the same for the fifth consecutive season, with tickets ranging in price between $4 and $9.
Oxford Speedway releases schedule
OXFORD — Oxford Plains Speedway has released its 2012 racing schedule.
The highlight of the schedule is the TD Bank 250 on July 22. NASCAR star Kyle Busch won the 2011 edition of the TD Bank 250, defeating the top Late Model drivers from around the region.
“Since 2004, the TD Bank 250 has attracted a number of Sprint Cup competitors. July 22, 2012, again falls on an off weekend for the Sprint Cup, so it is likely Oxford fans will have the opportunity to see a NASCAR star try and take the checkers,” Speedway owner Bill Ryan said.
Ryan also announced that season passes for all the Speedway events were being sold at a 50 percent discount if purchased by Dec. 31.
“We know that the economy continues to be tough for many of our teams and fans. We are giving them the opportunity to be part of all the action for half off if they purchase their pass by the end of December. It is our way of saying thanks to our loyal supporters,” Ryan explained.

Area cheerleaders shine on Thanksgiving
BRUNSWICK — On Thanksgiving Day two eighthgrade Brunswick Junior High School students represented Brunswick Cheerleading by marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, which was broadcasted on abc6.com out of Philadelphia.
Julia Casey and Shelby Cash were nominated to try out for the All- American Cheerleading squad during summer cheer camp held at Husson University in Bangor. There were approximately 100 girls who tried out, with approximately 25 girls making the team.
The All-American team is made up of cheerleaders from all over the country.
Both girls are currently cheering for the Brunswick Junior High School winter cheering program and for the Maine Event competition Maine team in Lewiston.
NE Medical Fitness 5K on Dec. 11
TOPSHAM — The New England Medical Fitness 5K for Food is scheduled to be held Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at New England Medical Fitness, located at the Topsham Fair Mall.
The entry fee is four pieces of non-perishable foods, but money donations will also be accepted.
This is a fun run and no times will be posted.
The event is also in need of course volunteers, timers, and food and refreshment volunteers.

Morse girls to host Scarborough
BATH — The Morse High School girls basketbal program is scheduled to host Scarborough in preseason action on Monday with the jayvee game to begin at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
Scarborough is coached by Tom Maines, a former Morse boys mentor.
He is assisted by Rita Maines, former Brunswick girls coach.
Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
Field hockey has Miss Maine picks
AUGUSTA — The Maine Field Hockey Association (MFHA) has announced the four finalists for Miss Maine Field Hockey.
The winner will be announced on Sunday at the MFHA annual Awards Banquet at the Augusta Civic Center.
These year’s nominees (in alphabetical order) are Katie Bernatchez of Messalonskee High School, Nicole Sevey of Skowhegan, Marissa Shaw of Nokomis and Jessica Skillings of Skowhegan.
