Kenney, Jensen win titles

 

 

BATH

The annual Westlake Memorial Wrestling Tournament was held Saturday at the Bath Middle School and won by Mt. Blue.

The Cougars finished with two firsts, two seconds and 130 points to beat out Fryeburg Academy ( 117.50), Cony ( 116), Skowhegan ( 91.50), Mt. Ararat ( 78) and Morse (67), Hyde took 12th out of 18 teams with 36 points.

 

 

For Mt. Ararat, Jacob Kenney was first at 106 with a 2:59 pin over Robbie Hamburger of Nokomis and Felipe Gunter took second at 132, losing 3- 0 to Connor Dufour of Cony.

Brunswick’s Jared Jensen took first at 160 with a 9-1 decision over Christian Jackson of Skowhegan.

“By and large, a lot of good things happened,” said Mt. Ararat coach Erick Jensen. “Jacob and Jared wrestled to their number-one seeds. We’re very young and I was very pleased with their efforts … it was a decent day. There was a lot of good things that we can build on.”

 

 

Morse’s Gary Stevens was second at 126 with a 10-6 loss to Khalili Newbill of Mt. Blue, while Hyde School’s Lukas Fischer placed second at 182, losing 7- 4 to Caleb Farrington of Mt. Blue in his championship match. Dylan Harrington of Morse fell to Connor Sheehan of Fryebug 8-1 in the 113-pound final.

Taking third place were Wyatt Brackett of Morse 138 (pin, 2:36, over Chris Paradis of Cony), Chester Hill of Hyde at 152 ( 5- 3 decision over Wyatt Thornton of Gardiner) and Pierce Knorr at 220 (pin, 3:36, over Corey Lent of Morse).

 

 

Picking up a fourth place was Cory Allen of Mt. Ararat at 112 ( pin, 1:30, to Tyler Craig of Mt. Blue).

Morse is scheduled to compete at the York Sullivan Duals on Dec. 10, while Mt. Ararat is at Westbrook the same day.
