After a 10- month trek extending from the tip of southern Florida to Quebec, conservationist John Davis will share his story tonight at the Patagonia Outlet Store in Freeport.
At 7: 15 p. m., Davis will address the conservation group RESTORE: The North Woods in a free presentation that is open to the public.
According to a press release from the group, Davis will share the story of his 7,600-mile trek along the eastern United States, plotting a course along what he has identified as “a potential continental sized wildlife corridor.”
Davis will make the case for identifying that corridor as a possible foundation for an “Eastern Wildway” conservation area.
In remarks made after reaching the end of the trail, Davis talked about strategies for conserving that land.
“If our eastern wildlife is to survive and rejuvenate, all of us need to focus on five conservation actions: Connect and protect existing big wild areas; reintroduce important key species like wolves and cougars; create wildlife crossings over and under highways; protect waterways with riparian buffers; and create stronger incentives for private lands stewardship,” Davis said.
