This year’s Spring Festival at Wolfe’s Neck Farm will continue the tradition of great fun and learning for the whole family.
Join in the fun at the farm from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Admision is $6 per person and those 3 and under are free. Wolfe’s Neck Farm is located at 184 Burnett Road, Freeport.
Music, games, demonstrations and learning activities make the Spring Festival unique with its country setting. There will be opportunities for the public to explore the trails and gardens, interact with the animals, learn about seeds and plants and try their hand at fiber arts.
There will also be a variety of barnyard animals including cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and visiting horses — including a minihorse. For younger children there will be craft activities, face painting, a hay pile and tractors to climb. The festival will also feature hayrides and live music, and a wide variety of food will be available for purchase.
Demonstrations at the festival will include chicken tractors, horse handling, pasture-raised sheep, gardening and planting, jam making, beekeeping, goat milking and vermicomposting. There will also be activities such as haywagon rides, a haybale climb, tractor climbing, face painting, seed balls, kiddie art, felting and carding, fairy house building and pine needle sachets.
Food vendors for the festival include the Friday Pie Club featuring pies, tarts, and turnovers with sweet and savory fillings and local lard crusts; the Wicked Good Food Truck offering treats like chicken and waffles, frito pie, Philly cheesesteaks and breakfast sandwiches and vegan dishes; Kids Gone Raw featuring tasty smoothies and dehydrated raw snacks; the Wolfe’s Neck Farm Snack Shack serving local Harmon’s crab cakes, clam cakes and french fries; Cameron Clan Kettle Corn; Mainely Burgers; Fishin’ Ships serving up inspired takes on fish and chips using only the freshest local fish and Casco Bay Butter giving out samples and selling tubs of their local, allnatural artisan butters to take home.
The festival will also feature live music by Martin Swinger and Flight 317.
Many hands are needed to create this wonderful event, and the farm offers a free family admission in exchange for two-hour volunteer shifts. Those interested in volunteering should fill out a Volunteer Interest Form that can be found at wolfesneckfarm.org.
