BOWDOINHAM

The Board of Selectmen will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at the town office on School Street.

Discussion items include a debriefing on the Celebrate Bowdoinham event in September, as well as the town’s heating assistance program and discussion of a date for the board’s next workshop.

As one of the action items, the board will consider acting on workers’ compensation insurance for 2012.

The board then will consider acting on a Recycling Barn lease extension with David L. Berry, doing business as Sagadahoc Recycling Co. Bowdoinham officials have discussed the Recycling Barn lease in recent months because the town’s current insurance carrier notified municipal leaders that it would not provide workers’ compensation insurance for the town employees after Dec. 31.

In advising town officials of its plans to curtail coverage, the insurer noted that the roofs at the Recycling Barn and public works garage do not meet current codes for snow load.

The town is required by law to provide this type of insurance for its employees. Town Manager William Post has been researching short- and long- term options for both structures. He told selectmen the town would be able to obtain workers compensation in the short term.

Selectmen will also consider the following action items:

— Property tax abatement for Douglas and Ann Tourtelotte for an unfinished basement assessed in error.

— Contract extension for curbside pickup with Richard Plummer & Sons, Inc.

— Policy change for all committee bylaws to allow Board of Selectmen members to serve on committees.

— Appointment of Dean Beckwith to the Community Development Advisory Committee.

— Approval of funding requests approved by 250th Anniversary Committee.
