FREEPORT — Freeport’s chapter of Rotary International again will host its Close to the Coast race on Saturday, June 22, at 9 a.m.
The course is strung along a series of quiet roads and forest trails along the ocean in Winslow Park. All race proceeds support Rotary’s local scholarship program, which has received more than $90,000 during the past 18 years of the Coast race, as well as an additional $60,000 from other fundraising activities, according to Rotary member and Town Councilor Jim Hendricks.
The race is part of Winslow Park Family Fun Day, which also includes a one-kilometer Fun Run for kids after the adult 5- and 10K races. The children’s run is free and features prizes provided by local confectioner Wilbur’s of Maine.
Registration for Close to the Coast is $20; T-shirts are guaranteed to registrants only through June 13.
Advance registration is available at www.freeportrotary.org; day-of-race entrance is from 7:15 – 8:45 a.m. For more information, call Hendricks at 865-1183 or by email at drjah@fihc.comcastbiz.net.
