BRUNSWICK — Aspiring and experienced meditators are invited to attend events offered at the Shambhala Meditation Centers in the month of January that “will guide participants to commence or reinvigorate a meditation practice,” according to a news release.
There will be an open house at the Brunswick Shambhala Meditation Center on Jan. 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In addition, a weekend program and a six-week class introducing the practice of sitting meditation are being offered at the centers in Brunswick and Portland.
“The Art of Being Human” is a weekend program in Brunswick from Jan. 6 to 8 that will introduce participants to the practice of meditation and the principles of the Shambhala path of warriorship. Under the guidance of Shastri (senior teacher) Frank Ryan and Susan Ryan, participants will spend the weekend learning how meditation can lead to the development of genuine confidence, humor and personal dignity within the complexity of daily life, explains the release.
The program will begin with a free public talk on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m., and continue Saturday and Sunday from 8: 30 a. m. to 6 p. m. Preregistration is required for the weekend, though the Friday evening talk is open to all.
The fee for the weekend program is $110. Student or need-based discounts are available for all Shambhala Center programs. Register online at www.shambhalabp.org. For more information, contact James Prentice at lowlandbear@gmail.com or 837-8431.
“Meditation in Everyday Life” is a sixweek class that follows the Shambhala Training Level 1 at both the Brunswick and Portland Centers. The classes will be on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 10. In Portland, classes will be from 6:15 to 8 p.m. and in Brunswick the classes will be from 7 to 9 p.m.
The courses will offer new students the opportunity to deepen their experience and understanding of meditation, states the release. Classes will include discussions on how to apply meditation in the midst of a busy life, how to maintain such a practice and how daily meditation relates to the Shambhala vision of an enlightened society. Preregistration is encouraged.
All are welcome to attend the Open House, weekend program or class.
The fee for the six-week class is $30. Register online at www.shambhalabp.org.
