LISBON
The Lisbon Town Council will hear a report from the firm conducting the town’s revaluation tonight.
Assessor William Van Tuinen of William Van Tuinen Tax Assessment Services will report on the revaluation. The process began in 2011 and new values are slated to be completed for the 2015-16 tax commitment. The last revaluation was completed in 1990.
“Revaluation is a process the creates a solid base of inventory for tax purposes,” said David Ledew, director of the property tax division for Maine Revenue Services, during an update on the revaluation process at a council meeting in February. The assessor’s job every year, Ledew said, “is to establish equitable values on every property in town subject to taxation — real and personal.”
The council tonight may also conduct final readings of a new cemetery ordinance as well as the Itinerant Vendor Ordinance and Fee Schedule, which contains a change allowing the council to waive the fee for non-profit organizations.
Councilors will consider granting authorization to sign a letter of engagement with RHR Smith for the annual audit. The council will also discuss setting a workshop for an update on the Mill Street Dam from the he Atlantic Salmon Federation.
The Town Council is scheduled to consider granting approvals for the Lisbon Falls Fire Company road toll fundraiser during the Moxie Festival this coming weekend, as well as a road race run by the town’s recreation department and the Moxie car show.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and takes place at the town office.
