The American Cancer Society will host a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer kickoff rally and informational meeting at 6 p.m. this evening at the Sea Dog Brewery, One Bowdoin Mill Island in Topsham, to share details about its upcoming community walk.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is an event to raise awareness and funds to end breast cancer. Since 1993, more than 11 million supporters have raised more than $685 million nationwide. Last year, 167 walkers in Brunswick and the surrounding areas helped to raise more than $36,000. This kickoff will provide community members the opportunity to learn how to get involved in the Brunswick walk slated for Sunday, Oct. 4.
Funds raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks enable the American Cancer Society to finish the fight against breast cancer by investing in research, providing free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer and helping people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable.
“Uniting with others in the Making Strides walk gives us power to make a real difference in the fight to end breast cancer,” said Matt Kennedy, Community Manager for American Cancer Society. “At the event we celebrate survivorship and pay a meaningful tribute to those affected by the disease. Thanks to participants, the American Cancer Society is there for those who are currently dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether because of education and risk reduction.”
