The Androscoggin River Watershed Council invites the public to join the final three days of paddling in the 18th Annual Androscoggin River Source to the Sea Trek 2013 — a 170-mile journey which began July 12 at the river’s headwaters on Lake Umbagog.
So far, participants have paddled more than 120 miles on 15 different sections of the Androscoggin River.
The mission of the Trek is to bring paddlers of all ages together to experience, to explore, and to celebrate the Androscoggin River’s revitalization.
The Trek is free to the public and shuttle service is provided. A $10 donation will support the logistical operations of Source to the Sea Trek.
— On Friday, the paddle is from Durham to Lisbon Falls, begining at 9 a.m. Meet at the Durham boat access on Route 136. Featured will be Margaret Casey of the National Weather Service on weather safety preparedness.
— On Saturday, the paddle is from Lisbon Falls to Brunswick, with one portage. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Pejepscot Boat Launch.
— On Sunday, the final paddle and celebration from Bath to Brunswick begins at the Bath boat launch, paddles the Kennebec River up to the Chopps and into Merrymeeting Bay. Intermediate-level paddling skills required.
Meet at 9 a.m. at Bath Boat Launch North, located one mile north on Washington Street in Bath.
There will be an end-of-paddle gathering at the Sea Dog Brewery in Topsham.
