On Aug. 10, employees from the Mortgage Network Inc. spent the day on ladders installing siding at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland’s newest duplex construction project.
The duplex is part of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland current subdivision project, soon to be Hummingbird Lane. The 2-acre Hummingbird Lane project consists of two triplexes and one duplex, creating affordable housing for eight residents.
“Normally we are a team working behind our desks exchanging emails to deliver mortgages on people’s houses,” said Judi Hutzler, a member of the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland Board of Directors who serves as a senior loan officer for Mortgage Network Inc. “And today we are standing shoulder to shoulder building new homes together.”
Employees worked side-byside with a mother and son who will be moving into the duplex and calling it their new home this fall.
“Working on the financial end of home ownership, in helping borrowers make their dream come true, is quite gratifying; however, one doesn’t truly understand the meaning and pride of home ownership until working with Habitat for Humanity and its worthy recipients,” said Page Asbury, senior vice president of Mortgage Network Inc.
