SACO — Ryan Lambert and Zach Lombard combined for both goals as Thornton Academy stunned Cheverus 2-1 Tuesday in an SMAA boys’ soccer match.
The Stags were ranked fifth in the Heal point standings in Western Class A prior to Tuesday’s games; the Trojans were 16th.
Lombard set up Lambert on the Trojans’ first goal, then Lombard made it 2-0 with an assist from Lambert.
Nicholas Melville scored for the Stags (7-4-1).
Goalie Chris Roberts had five saves for Thornton (2-9-1). Peter Pothoff and Connor Maines combined for five for Cheverus.
WAYNFLETE 3, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Tucker Geoffrey had a goal and an assist to lead Waynflete (8-0-2) over Traip Academy (2-8-1) at Portland.
Geoffrey scored unassisted in the first half, then set up Peabo Knoth 1:31 into the second for a 2-0 lead. Omar Abdille headed in an indirect kick from Daniel Wiener with 15 minutes remaining.
CAPE ELIZABETH 6, FREEPORT 0: Tim Takach, Nick Breed and Ben Norris each scored two goals as the Capers (9-2-2) shut out the Falcons (2-10-1) at Freeport.
Brett Parker had three saves for the shutout. Connor Dietrich stopped 10 shots for the Falcons.
SANFORD 3, BIDDEFORD 0: Daniel Reed, Robbie Dudzisz and Seth Noonkester each scored a goal to lead Sanford (5-6-1) over the Tigers (0-12) at Biddeford.
Reed scored in the 17th minute to give the Redskins a 1-0 halftime lead. Noonkester and Dudzisz scored one minute apart in the second half.
GORHAM 2, SOUTH PORTLAND 2: The Red Riots (9-2-1) scored the first two goals before the Rams (8-3-1) rallied to earn a tie at Gorham.
Dan Grazewski scored unassisted for South Portland with 9:49 left in the first half before Nemanja Kaurin added an unassisted goal early in the second.
Seth Wing scored for Gorham with 10:26 remaining in the second half on a feed from Drew Hopkins, followed by an unassisted goal by Levi Lurvey at 3:34.
SCARBOROUGH 4, BONNY EAGLE 1: Connor Gullifer and Andrew Jones each had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Storm (10-2) over the Scots 5-5-2) at Scarborough.
Kevin Philbrick and Trevor Sparda added scores for Scarborough. Evan Spencer had the goal for Bonny Eagle.
PORTLAND 3, MARSHWOOD 1: Fazal Nabi scored two goals to lift the Bulldogs (10-1-1) to a win over the Hawks (8-3-1) at South Berwick. Tim Rovnak also scored for Portland.
TJ Osborne had a second-half goal for Marshwood, and Jackson Towle made 18 saves.
YORK 2, GREELY 1: Liam Langaas scored both goals to lead York (7-3) past Greely (6-5-1) at Cumberland.
Kevin Bond got an assist on Langaas’ first goal six minutes in, and the Rangers tied it when Austin Spencer scored off a pass from Brandon Pinette.
Langaas scored the winner off a direct kick by Jonathan Baker with 24 minutes left.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1, POLAND 0: Jack Martell scored 15 minutes into the second half to give the Patriots (8-5) a win over Poland (3-9) at Gray.
Ryan Cavallaro made two saves for his seventh shutout. Dillon Douglass stopped eight shots for the Knights.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Matt Michaud scored 8:55 into the game to break a scoreless tie and help NYA (5-5) defeat Sacopee (6-4-2) at Yarmouth.
Matt Kibler and Ryan Rousseau added second-half goals.
Goalie Jordan Haskell needed five stops for the shutout. Mitchell Barton made nine saves for the Hawks.
WINDHAM 1, WESTBROOK 0: Bryan Soucy scored the winner as the Eagles (4-7-1) edged the visiting Blue Blazes (4-7-1).
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 9, WELLS 1: Milos Mijuvak had three goals and two assists as the Raiders (7-6) defeated the Warriors (0-13) at Fryeburg.
Wyatt Andreoli also scored three goals for Fryeburg.
RICHMOND 2, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 0: Dustin Sullivan had eight saves as the Bobcats (8-3-2) shut out the Lions (6-5) at Richmond.
Tom Carter and Andrew Rossignol each had a goal.
Greater Portland goaltender Sam Carlson had 15 saves.
MORSE 4, BRUNSWICK 1: Eric Trautman-Mosher had one goal and one assist to lead the Shipbuilders (9-3) past the Dragons (9-3) at Brunswick.
Beau Gaughran scored an unassisted goal for Brunswick early in the second half.
KENNEBUNK 1, DEERING 0: Jacob Jorgensen scored after a goal-front scramble to give Kennebunk (7-4-1) a win over Deering (3-8-1) at Portland.
Christian Elkington made three saves for Kennebunk. Deering keeper Jamie Gullbrand stopped four shots.
