It’s homecoming time again at Thornton Academy! I welcome our entire community to celebrate this special season with us on Saturday, Oct. 3 when the TA campus will be alive with activity.

Homecoming provides an opportunity for our alumni to reconnect, and the day reminds us all of the special place Thornton Academy holds in our hearts. Thornton Academy has a long and proud tradition of excellence. We will recognize and celebrate that tradition of athletic excellence during our annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Garland Auditorium. The event will be followed by a rededication of the recently restored Victory Bell, which has sat atop Thornton Academy since 1889. The annual parade featuring class floats will start at 2 p.m., and the football game in Hill Stadium will start a little later than usual, at 3:30 p.m.

Academics are at the core of what we do, but Thornton Academy has a broader responsibility as well. We help students to develop character, and a sense of connection and commitment to the broader community. Between now and the end of October, TA students are giving back to the local community by working to collect food donations for the Saco Food Pantry and the Good Shepherd Food Bank as part of the WGME School Spirit Challenge. You can help this service project by bringing a donation of nonperishable food items to the game or to us here at school throughout the month of October. Every donation is an act of compassion that will make a difference in the life of a neighbor.

To alumni and friends alike, welcome home! I hope to see you on campus for any or all of our homecoming events.
