Dear fellow citizens of Saco, I am writing to you today concerning the candidacy of Mr. Roland “Ron” Michaud for the office of Mayor. I had an opportunity to work directly with Ron for nearly two years during Saco’s effort to return to an independent school system. Although he has previously served on Saco’s Planning Board, as a city councilor for seven terms, as Saco’s mayor for two terms, and as a member of the School Board, I didn’t know him nearly as well as I have come to know him today.

What appeals to me most about Ron is his personal motivation to give of his time in positions of public service. Without exception, every conversation I’ve had with him about the opportunities and challenges facing the city of Saco are always centered on one common theme; whether or not they benefit the citizens of Saco. In that regard, he is one of the most trustworthy, genuine and well-intentioned individuals I know.

Good leadership for any community requires a visionary with the motivation and skills to move others to action. In the time that Ron has stepped away from public service, I believe he has developed a very clear sense of the direction on which this great city needs to embark and he brings an enormous amount of experience and historical perspective to the process.

In more recent times, we have leaned too heavily on the taxpayers where responsible growth and innovation should have supported our efforts into the 21st century. I will always be proud of my Saco roots and am happy to raise my family here, but Saco has the capacity and the attributes to be an even greater community; and more affordable to its existing and future residents. It needs strong, dedicated and selfless leadership to get there. On November 3, Saco needs Ron Michaud. Please remember to exercise your right to vote.
