KENNEBUNK — Enrico “Rico” Francesco Badyk, 69, of High Street, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at York Hospital following a period of declining health.

Rico was born April 17, 1946 in Rome, Italy, the son of Joseph and Luigia (Massimiani) Badyk.

Rico served in the U.S. Air Force for four years at Langley Air Force base in Virginia as a medical corpsman. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Kean State College in Union, New Jersey in 1975 and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Portland as a registered nurse in 1978.

On July 26, 1975, he married Ann Marta Schmidt.

Rico practiced as a nurse at both Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and at York Hospital in York, serving in the emergency rooms. He was a member of the Emergency Nurses Association and the Kennebunk Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed traveling, playing the accordion, woodworking and fishing. He taught Italian at Kennebunk Adult Education and had traveled to Italy to see his numerous cousins. Most importantly, Rico enjoyed his family, especially time spent with his grandchildren.

Rico is preceded in death by: his dear wife, Marta, in 2012.

He is lovingly remembered by: his son, Benjamin “BJ” Jacob Badyk and his fiancée Veronika Tio of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; his mother, Luigia Badyk; his brother-in-law, Francis “FJ” Schmidt and his wife Colleen of Hampton Bay, New York; his sisters, Anna Tapia of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, and Victoria Ojeda of Cliffside Park, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Richard and Scarlett; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins in Italy.

Friends may visit on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 5- 7 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, ME.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
