BRUNSWICK — The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships were held Saturday inside Bowdoin College’s Farley Field House.

The Brunswick boys captured the KVAC Class A title, racking up 189 points to easily out-distance runner-up Lewiston, which finished with 92. Mt. Ararat was third (75), followed by Messalonskee (49) and Edward Little (47).

In the girls meet, Messalonskee was consistent in taking home the win with 119.50 points. Edward Little (104.50), Mt. Ararat (75.50), Brunswick (58) and Lewiston (53) rounded out the top five.

Boys

There were events that saw Brunswick dominate. Mitchell Leinert won three individual events — the 55-meter dash, 200 and 400. Teammates Jack Harvey (second, 55; third, 200) and Hunter Parker (second, 200; fourth, 400) were right there to rack up big points for the Dragons.

Will Shaughnessy also had three wins for Brunswick, taking the 800, one-mile and two-mile races. Again, Dragons Andrew Chingos (second, 800), Tyler Patterson (third, 800; second, 1-mile; third, 2-mile) and Joey Valliere (fourth, 1-mile; fourth, 2-mile) earned points for the Dragons, along with the winning 4 x 800 relay.

Tyler Trebilcock was third in the 55 hurdles, followed by teammate Chandler Coombs in fourth.

Jumper Samuel Cenescar had himself a day with a pair of wins. He won the high jump (6-02) and the long jump (19-11.50), while Hunter Parker finished third in the long jump and Michael McCrum claimed fourth in the pole vault.

Mt. Ararat had several standouts on the day. Hunter Lohr captured the shot put with a heave of 39-10.50, while Ethan Rac was fourth in the long jump and triple jump.

On the track, Holden Brannon (third, 55), Tyler Bernier (third, 800), Grady Satterfield (third, 1-mile, second, 2-mile) and Nate Cohen (fourth, 1-mile) had solid showings.

Girls

Brunswick held off Mt. Ararat to win the 4 x 800 relay to open the meet.

From there, it turned into a battle between Messalonskee and Edward Little. The Red Eddies had a triple winner in Jillian Richardson (800, 1-mile, 2-mile), while Charlotte Wentworth captured the 400 for Messalonskee.

It was Messalonskee’s depth that led to the title.

For Mt. Ararat, Sara York captured the high jump title (5-0), while Wyley Fitzpatrick continued her roll in jumps, winning both the long jump (15-09.50) and triple jump (33-06). Katie Lynch picked up fourth in the 400 and 55 hurdles, along with a fifth in the 200 for Mt. Ararat.

Brunswick’s Tea Kepler won the pole vault (9-0), while Maddie Wayne was second in both the 800 and one-mile runs. Kaeden Green captured fifth in the 400, while Dragon Aela Hemberger was fifth in the 800.

Mt. Ararat and Brunswick head to the University of Southern Maine on Feb. 18 for the State Class A Championships.

KVAC Class B

The Morse boys began the meet well, taking the 4 x 800 relay in a KVAC record time of 9:13.40 at Bowdoin College.

The Shipbuilders ended the day in sixth with 32.50 points, with Belfast winning on the boys side with 99 points. Leavitt (72), Lincoln Academy (63), Nokomis (52)  and Erskine Academy (43) rounded out the top five.

William Carrolton earned points for Morse with a second-place throw in the shot put. In the two-mile run, Finn Thelan was third, while Shipbuilder teammate Connor Freeman was seventh. Taking fifth in the 55 dash was Morse’s Tyler Scorfina, with sixth-place showings going to Thomas Trundy (800) and Aiden Pryor (1-mile).

Winslow won a three-team race in the girls meet, finishing with 98 points, just ahead of Belfast (96) and Waterville (85.50).

Morse garnered nine points. Mae Winglass (fourth, triple jump) and Lorelei Pryor (sixth, 2-mile; seventh, 400) scored for the Shipbuilders along with the 4 x 200 relay (sixth).

WMC

The Western Maine Conference Championships were held Friday at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.

York swept the titles, with the girls racking up 156 points to edge Greely (127), while the Wildcat boys easily won with 228 points to Greely’s 96.

In the girls meet, Freeport finished third with 59 points. Tara Migliaccio won the Senior 400 in 1:04.11 and finished fourth in the Senior 55 dash, while Shaina Curry was tops in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-10. Curry was also seventh in the Junior 55 hurdles. The Falcons also won the Open 4 x 200 relay in 1:56.25. Emmie Riendeau was fifth in the Junior 55 dash and the Junior 200, while Faith Brischetto captured sixth in the Junior 55 dash and Junior 200.

Lisbon/St. Dom’s earned its lone point when Sarah Brown finished seventh in the 800.

In the boys meet, Lisbon/St. Dom’s was third with 53 points, while Freeport had 24 points for 11th.

Isaiah Thompson of Lisbon/St. Dom’s took second in the Senior 200, fourth in the Senior 55 dash and fourth in the Senior shot put. Teammate Daytona McIver was fifth in the Junior 200 and seventh in the Junior 55 dash, while Hunter Burkhardt claimed fourth in the 800. Alan Lavoie was second in the Senior shot put.

Lisbon/St. Dom’s was solid in the relays with a second, third and fifth.

For Freeport, Nick Mitch was third in the Senior 55 and second in the Senior 400, while Falcon Boden Abbott was third in the Junior 200 and Owen Patrick fifth in the 800.

Freeport, Lisbon/St. Dom’s and Morse compete in Saturday’s State Class B Championships at Bates College in Lewiston.
