FALMOUTH — Books Etc. will close permanently on Monday after 23 years in business, said owner Allan Schmid.

The store at 240 U.S. Route 1 has struggled in recent years with growing competition from Internet book sellers, large bookstore chains and, more recently, electronic book readers, Schmid said.

All merchandise is marked down 40 percent. The store will close at 6 p.m. Monday.
