BATH — Bath police charged a Brunswick man with operating under the influence after he allegedly struck two utility poles and a car along High Street early Sunday morning. His passenger allegedly tried to run away from officers and was bitten by a police dog, according to police.
Bath Deputy Police Chief Robert Savary said an officer saw a 2000 silver Volvo X-70 speeding on High Street shortly after midnight. Police say the car crashed before the officer could stop it.
Savary said the car struck a utility pole south of Nichols Street. The car continued south and struck a vehicle in a driveway before striking another utility pole at 468 High St.
Police say the Volvo was driven by Christopher Taylor, 29, of Brunswick, who was found by officers walking away from the crash. Taylor had injuries to his face, Savary said, “and it was pretty clear to them he was involved in the crash.”
Taylor was taken to Mid Coast Hospital by ambulance.
Additionally, police said that Randy Brewer, 28, of Phippsburg, was found hiding behind another residence on High Street. Police say Brewer was a passenger in the car who tried to run away before he was bitten by a police dog. Brewer was treated at Mid Coast Hospital for minor injuries as a result, Savary said.
Brewer was issued a summons at the hospital for refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
Savary said Taylor was charged with operating under the influence, operating while license suspended or revoked and failure to report an accident involving property damage.
Savary said a female passenger was taken to the hospital and a third male passenger was unharmed. Neither were issued any charges.
Both Taylor and Brewer are scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court May 21.
