I want to remind my fellow registered Democrats that if you can’t attend your local Presidential Caucus on Sunday, March 6, you can request an absentee ballot from the Maine Democratic Party website mainedems.org. or by calling the MDP at 207-622-6233. The web page or the person who answers your call will give you options on how to receive your absentee ballot and how to get them back to MDP headquarters in Augusta.
The key thing to remember is that a hard copy of the absentee ballot (fax, regular mail or hand delivery) must be received at MDP headquarters in Augusta by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. Those ballots will be verified and delivered to your local caucus convener by March 5. So choose the best option for getting your ballot back in time so your vote counts.
In the event that you change your mind, you can go to the presidential caucus, but you must indicate when you check in that you are withdrawing your absentee ballot.
By using the absentee ballot, you are participating in just the presidential preference voting part of the caucus and will not be able to participate in other parts of the business, such as electing municipal officers, county delegates, and state delegates.
