BIDDEFORD — Alice Theresa Casavant, 91, of Biddeford, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough.

She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Biddeford, a daughter of Paul N. Chenard and Annie (Seavey) Chenard. Alice was educated locally at St. Mary’s School, and was a graduate of Biddeford High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation, she was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph until 1951.

On April 9, 1951, she married Roger A. Casavant at St. Mary’s Church. While her children were young, Alice was a stay-at-home mom. Later, she worked for a few years at the Biddeford Parks and Recreation Office, and for 20 years as nanny for the Noyes family in Saco. Her family was always the centerpiece of her life.

Alice was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Parish, where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the St. Mary’s Sodality. A devout Catholic, she viewed Mass daily on television when she could no longer attend in person.

She loved doing crossword puzzles and word jumbles, and enjoyed listening to Irish music. Alice was a huge fan of Notre Dame football, and followed with great interest local politics and her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a member of the Biddeford Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Roger A. Casavant, in 1989; her daughter, Kathryn Casavant in 1970; a sister, Beverly Mooney; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Lawrence Chenard.

She is survived by: two sons, Alan Casavant and his wife Patti Jalbert, and Neil Casavant and his wife Carol Cadorette, all of Biddeford; three grandchildren, Joel and his wife Jill, Jeffrey and his sons Dallas and Jeffrey Jr., and Leah Casavant; one brother, Philip Chenard of Erie, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Frances Callahan of Saco, Patricia Pinette and her husband Donald of Biddeford, and Sister Ann Paul (Barbara) of Buffalo, New York; numerous nieces and nephews; and the Noyes Family, William and Nancy Noyes, and their children, Ally and Brian.

Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
