BRUNSWICK — Power was out at Cook’s Corner in Brunswick and more than 4,000 Central Maine Power customers were in the dark Thursday after a reported fire along high voltage transmission lines.
Central Maine Power Co. spokeswoman Catharine Hartnett confirmed the outage is due to an equipment failure behind the Bath Iron Works Hardings Plant that happened at around 11 a.m. Thursday.
Hartnett said equipment on a transmission pole failed and caught fire.
As a result, there are about 2,300 customers without power in Brunswick and 2,900 customers without power in Harpswell. Only 160 customers were without power as of 4:30 p.m., according to CMP’s website.
“We are working to reroute power right now,” she said at around 1:20 p.m.
It may take a couple more hours to do that, Hartnett said.
The utility used a helicopter to observe the line from the air.
The traffic lights weren’t working in Cook’s Corner as of 12:30 p.m. and public safety officials had placed stop signs at intersections. Crews were picking up the signs shortly before 3:30 p.m.
