Todd’s parents want to personally share their grief, shock and frustration with others who may be battling addiction. Don’t break your parent’s hearts. There is help available, and no matter what comes, you are loved by many.
Todd was born in Sanford on Oct. 14, 1982, the only son of John A. and Kathy M. (Jones) Carlton. He grew up in Shapleigh, attended elementary school in Shapleigh and Acton, and graduated from Massabesic High School in Waterboro.
Todd entered the apprenticeship program at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked the past eight years as a shipfitter, work leader and material control manager. He was always the first to lend a hand to others, and stayed until the job was done.
Todd was an avid outdoorsman who spent endless hours in the woods hunting and four-wheeling with his buddies. If you got stuck in the mud – Todd was the master of getting people unstuck from the mud holes! He went ice fishing on Mousam Lake or Square Pond, but his heart was content when he went up north to Greenville and Monson. Todd loved camping with his parents, and his help with the yearly firewood was priceless.

Todd is survived by: his parents, John and Kathy Carlton of Shapleigh; his son, David Carlton; his grandmother, Areta (Rita) Ricker; his aunt and uncle, Karen and Stephen Blaisdell; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his companion, Theresa Hersey.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Alfred Parish Church, 12 Kennebunk Road, Alfred. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m., the Rev. Beverly Brent officiating.
