I am writing to urge voters in District 31 to support Justin Chenette for Senate in the primary on June 14.

Last June, I co-organized a rally at the State House to urge the Legislature to investigate Gov. LePage’s efforts to sabotage the hiring of Mark Eve by Goodwill Hinkley. In January of this year, I co-organized another rally at the State House advocating for impeachment.

I had never done anything like that before in my life. However, I found the governor’s actions to be intolerable, and I felt that I could not sit back while Gov. LePage attempted to destroy the fabric of government of the state that I love so much.

Not only has the governor blackmailed Goodwill Hinckley, a private nonprofit, he has vetoed masses of legislation (not on their merits but out of spite for the political process), he has failed to issue voter-approved bonds, and he has denigrated whole groups of residents in this state. And that is not an exhaustive list.

Justin Chenette has demonstrated courage in the face of our bullying governor. He spoke out in favor of impeachment during the House debate, and he voted to move forward on the motion to impeach. He also worked on his own bill to implement a recall provision.

This demonstrated concern for the people of Maine, and the proper functioning of our government is exactly what we need in Maine’s Senate.
