In the end it would be the host Spartans getting a run in the bottom of the 12th to secure a 3-2 win.
Ryan Connarton, who had an RBI double earlier in the contest, hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th to give Sanford the win.
Sanford (1-3) would get two hits from Nate Martineau, who also tossed four scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.
Tyler Ouellette and Ben Carroll each drove in a run for the visiting Mustangs (0-4).
Kennebunk 9, Westbrook 7
The Rams would get a home run and four RBIs from Derek Smith as they picked up the win on Saturday.
Smith also had a RBI double for Kennebunk, which also got two hits from Elliot Gere.
Chris Grady picked up the win on the hill for Kennebunk (1-1).
South Portland 11, Biddeford 1
(5 innings)
Hunter Owen tossed a two-hitter to help South Portland hand Biddeford its first loss of the season.
South Portland (3-0) would get three hits and three RBIs from Riley Hasson.
Logan Magnant had a double in the loss for Biddeford (3-1).
Wells 6, York 3
Cam Cousins went the distance on the mound and allowed just four hits as Wells picked up the victory in a game played in Old Orchard Beach on Saturday.
Cousins also had a RBI single for the Warriors, who also got a double and three RBIs from Gary Andrews.
SOFTBALL
Massabesic 15, Sanford 5
The visiting Mustangs jumped out to a 10-1 lead after three innings and never looked back as they earned their first win of the season.
Lauren Kiss went 2-for-5 with five RBIs and Lacey Bean added three hits and four RBIs to lead the Massabesic offense.
Massabesic also got three hits from Grace Tutt and Janelle Sperdakos. Cayleigh Morris earned the win in the circle as she had seven strikeouts in seven innings of work for the Mustangs.
Sanford was led by Marli Wilson with three hits. Kaitlyn Farmer and Ruby LaChance added one hit and two RBIs each for the Spartans.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Kennebunk 9, Cape Elizabeth 3
Hallie Schwartzman scored three times to help the Rams pick up the win on Saturday.
Kennebunk (3-0) would get two goals and one assist from Erin Gorton. Brie Beaudette and Lily Schwartzman also had two goals in the win for the Rams.
The Rams, who will host Gorham on Tuesday night, got six saves from Haley Moody.
Edward Little 14, Sanford 6
Valentina Drown scored three times and Lauren Lapierre added two goals and two assists but it wouldn’t be enough for Sanford on Saturday.
The Spartans would also get one goal from Tiffany Twombley and both Marissa Laurendeau and Kelly Ames had one assist. Chloe Royer stopped seven shots in the cage for Sanford (0-2).
Megan Steele led Edward Little with five goals.
