KENNEBUNK —  Firefighters from several communities have been working alongside forest rangers to put out a wildfire reported to have spread across 60 acres in three communities.

The Maine Forest Service posted on Twitter early this evening that rangers were responding to a fire off Wild Turkey Lane in Kennebunk.

Around 9 p.m. the Maine Forest Service reported the fire had spread across 60 acres in Kennebunk, Wells and Sanford, and the fire was about 50 percent contained. Rangers were using bulldozers to line the fire perimeter and a helicopter to air drop water. 

Around 10:45 p.m. the Maine Forest Service reported that the York County Emergency Management Agency was on scene with a drone providing infrared imagery of the area. 

The Maine Forest Service is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
