Editor,

“Wherever a man turns he can find someone who needs him”- Albert Schweitzer

The Saco Food Pantry in its own way is like the man turning for it has, through the support of many, continuously extended a hand of both help and hope. Each hand extended also has a name, such as: Grace Agayoff, James Audiffred, Nicole Bergeman, Ron and Rachel Bolduc, Jay Brennan, Doris and Joseph Buonomo, Lloyd Hunt, Dorothy Jarry, Ann Marie Kenney, Sandra Kress, Linda Madore, Karin Olson, Marian Orr, Ken Scott, Lorraine Perron and Charlene Soucy, Rita Shaw, and Michelle Steeves.

We stand to honor volunteer Marsha Reynolds on her birthday. We also stand with heads bowed in rememberance of Frances Callahan and in humble thanksgiving for all who participated in the rescue of the trapped soccer team in Thailand and the diverr who gave his life so others could live.

We thank all the schools and organizations, and in particular: Altrusa Club of Biddeford-Saco, Eagles, Students, faculty and staff at C.K. Burns School, Maine Credit Unions Campaign For Ending Hunger, Narraganset Number One Foundation, and Thornton Academy, Houses of Worship such as  Most Holy Trinity, Trinity Episcopal, First Parish and North Saco Congregational, Unitarian Universalist of Saco and Biddeford, Cornerstone Methodist, Bible and United Baptist, St. Demetriousm St. Augustine, Hope Churches, Grace Communion International of Windham, and businesses such as Gartland Distributors, Len Libby’s, Northeast Credit Union, Prime Honda, Saco Farmers’ Market, and Saco Valley Auto Care.

By the concern shown the 528 people that formed 244 families were able to walk another straighter, smoother mile on the road they travel. To all those mentioned, those who remain stand in the shadows and wish to remain anonymous, and on behalf of the over 50 volunteers acting in your stead, thank you. May all and your families find good health, sunshine and God’s blessings.

Bob Nichols
