SANFORD — Carol Phyllis Smart, 82, of Sanford, passed away early Thursday morning on Oct. 11, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born in Biddeford on Aug. 26, 1936, a daughter of Bryce and Emelia (Collette) Bartlett. She graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School, Class of 1954.
Carol owned and operated Smart’s Beauty Salon in Saco for 22 years.
She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and cherishes the time they spent together. She will be sadly missed.
Mrs. Smart was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry J. Smart on July 27, 1997 and by her son Robert Smart in 1994, one sister Rosalie Carrigan and grandson Christopher Campbell.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Marchand of Sanford and Ann Salanick and her husband Michael of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Constance Coolen of Salem, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
