BELFAST — The Maine state cross country championships were held last weekend in Belfast and three local runners punched their ticket to the New England meet.
Kennebunk’s Ethan Eickmann and Wells’ Griffin Allaire both qualified on the boys’ side and Kennebunk’s Hannah D’Orso earned a trip to New Englands on the girls’ side of things.
Allaire was the top finisher among the local schools as he was third in the Class B race with a time of 16:24.95. Eickmann crossed the line in 16:39.59 to finish in 14th place in the Class A race.
Thornton Academy’s Dawson Desrosiers finished in 22nd, while Massabesic’s Jakob Saucier was 35th, Biddeford’s Sam Mills was right behind him in 36th and Kennebunk’s Garrett Erickson-Harris finished 37th. TA’s Landon Heidrich was 40th and Massabesic’s Jesse Cadigan was 45th.
Scarborough won the Class A boys’ race, while Bonny Eagle claimed the Class A girls’ championship.
The Class A girls’ race saw D’Orso cross the line in 16th place with a time of 19:47.05. Massabesic’s Kylie Johnson was the only other local runner to finish in the top 50 as she came home in 37th.
In the Class B girls’ race, Wells’ Heidi Fortin finished sixth in 20:32.18 and teammate Kate Pinette came home in 13th with a time of 20:46.47.
York won the Class B boys’ crown and Ellsworth brought home the girls’ title.
The New England Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 at Derryfield Park in Manchester, New Hampshire.
