BIDDEFORD — Why did the American Jews embrace Chinese food?
Presenter Rabbi Dr. David Freidenreich, the director of the Jewish studies program at Colby College and associate director of its Center for Small Town Jewish Life, will address this idea in a free talk that will explore the characteristics of Chinese food that make it Jewish. His research explores the place of food and ideas about Jewishness in the formation of Jewish, Christian, and Islamic identities.
The talk will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at Congregation Etz Chaim, 36 Bacon St. in Biddeford.
Join in this fun exploration of Jewishness and a taste of the kind of learning that happens at the Maine Conference for Jewish Life. The annual conference for this year is scheduled from June 21 to 23 at Colby College in Waterville.
