We received our property tax bill this week and received quite a surprise. Even though our assessment had gone down, our taxes went up by $303 for the year. I am sure that it was the same throughout the city. We will probably see even more “for sale” signs in the near future.

Taxpayers need to wake up and tell our mayor that our city may be on the “cusp of greatness,” but the homeowners are on the cusp of poverty. Councilmen like Bob Mills need to understand that $20,000 may seem like a good deal for a partial fence at the airport, but it’s still a waste and is only the beginning of big expenditures in the next four years.

If we finally get some industry in the old MERC location, we should then look into how to utilize the 127 acres at the airport for something that would benefit all the citizens of Biddeford.
