SACO — Antoinette “Toni” (Antonakos) Mendros, 87, of Saco, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.
She was born in Saco on March 25, 1927, the youngest of seven children of Costas and Maria (Daoutakos) Antonakos.
She graduated from Biddeford High School, Class of 1944.
Earlier in life, she was employed by the Puritan Restaurant and Saco Lowell.
She married Thomas Mendros on Sept. 8, 1957. They had three children, George, Dina and Michael.
She later worked for her husband in his business, Mendros Oil Company. After his death in 1980, she was employed by First Pay, Inc. and the University of New England.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas; three brothers, Arthur, Peter and Christo Antonakos; and three sisters, Helen Soucaris, Stella Antonakos and Caroline Padhaisky.
She is survived by: her children; nine sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; more than 30 nieces and nephews, including her nephew, Charles Antonacos, with whom she was extremely close; and more than 50 great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford.
