OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Local businessman and former town official, Joseph D. Mokarzel, 85, of Old Orchard Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away Friday evening in Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was a former teacher, head football coach and athletic director at Biddeford High School in the 1950s.

He was preceded in death by: two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Coffey, Beverly and Thomas Geyer.

He is survived by: his wife , Anita; two daughters, “Missy” and Lisa; a son, “JJ” and his wife Karen Mokarzel; a sister, Maureen O’Leary and her husband Anthony; a brother-in-law, Thomas E. Coffey; four grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; and several cousins.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, in St. Margaret’s Church, Old Orchard Beach.
