KENNEBUNK — Nancy A. Chadbourne, 70, of Penny Lane, Kennebunk, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.
She was born in Sanford on Jan. 6, 1944, a daughter of Cecil A. and Josephine U. (Sawyer) Chadbourne.
Nancy was a 1962 graduate of Sanford High School, and then graduated from University of Maine Orono with a bachelor’s degree in home economics.
She completed her internship in institution management with Stouffer Foods, Corp. Nancy assisted in the opening and development of restaurants in Short Hills, New Jersey, Saint Louis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Indianapolis and various sites in New York. Following 13 years with Stouffer Foods, she took a position with Magic Pan, Inc. located in Los Angeles as East Coast quality assurance supervisor. During the year with Magic Pan Corp, she traveled between New Orleans, Memphis, Miami, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Boston.
Retiring to Maine in 1980, while studying for the registered dietitian national test, Nancy was employed with H & R Block as a tax preparer, North Berwick Nursing Home as a weekend kitchen supervisor, and a cook at Waban’s summer camp. Successfully receiving her license as a registered dietitian, she consulted at Varney Crossing and Greenwood nursing homes.
Nancy ended her career with 28 years at Waban Projects, Inc., working as food supervisor, director of food services, nursing home administrator of Brookwood Nursing Home for Adults with mental and physical disabilities, and lastly as the training director of all Waban Projects, Inc. staff.
Nancy found time to volunteer with the AIDS Project, the Literacy Program and various programs at the First Baptist Church of Sanford.
Among her hobbies were knitting, reading, sewing, and collecting hippos and snowmen. Her greatest love was cooking, and she was known to make the “best chicken pie on Earth.”
Nancy is survived by: her twin sister, Noreen Roberts and her husband Bruce of Sanford; twin sisters, Joyce Gardner and husband Ted of Saco and Jean Gardner and husband David of Sanford; her brother, Bill Chadbourne and his wife Patti of Sanford; as well as 12 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
An hour of visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at 1 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine. Interment to follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Condolences may be made at www.johnsonfuneralhomeme.com.
