BIDDEFORD — Joseph S. “Sam” Collins, 82, of Biddeford, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford, after a brief illness.
He was born March 2, 1932 in Sinclair, a son of Leonard and Annie (Ouellette) Collin, and was educated there and in Biddeford.
Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for 10 years at the Stanley Electric Power Tool Co. in New Britain, Connecticut.
Returning to Maine, he was employed at the Pepperell Mfg. Co. for three years and Maremont/Saco Defense for 30 years, retiring in 1995. In his retirement, he continued to work at the Biddeford Wal-Mart for 11 years.
As a younger man, Joseph had enjoyed winter sports. He had been a member of the former St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford. He was a member of the Biddeford Senior Citizens, the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by: a grandson, Andrew Collins in 1983; brothers, Gerard, Richard and Fredolin Collins; and sisters, Freda St. Pierre and Hilda Degrammont.
He is survived by: two sons, Samuel W. Collins and Ronald P. Collins of Biddeford; four daughters, Nancy Malloch and her husband Milford of Kennebunk, Patricia Collins of Aldie, Virginia, Cheryl Pombriant and her husband Mark of Saco and Melissa Tuttle and her husband Scott of Biddeford; one sister, Angela Gourneault of Plainville, Connecticut; a brother-in-law, Norman St. Pierre of Cross Lake; 12 grandchildren, Eric Collins and Jeremy Beaulieu, Crystal, James and Jesse Malloch, Jamie, Felicia and Nicholas Collard, Tythian Pombriant and Amber Welch, Terje and Freja Tuttle; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A Catholic Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.
