BIDDEFORD — Daniel R. Murphy, 63, of Johnson City, Tennessee and formerly of Biddeford, passed away late last month, on Nov. 25, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Born in Biddeford on March 3, 1951, Daniel was the son of Kenneth and Rita Murphy.
He graduated from St. Louis High School in 1969. Daniel graduated from Bowdoin College with a bachelor’s degree in history, a subject he loved, and from the University of Southern Maine with an MBA in finance.
He was most recently employed at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, where he worked as a financial manager.
A quiet and caring man, Daniel was an avid reader, who loved nothing more than sitting outside on his deck with a book. He liked Motown, movies, crosswords and Elmore Leonard novels. He was a NASCAR fan, who enjoyed Jack Daniels and a good cigar. Without exception, he put the needs of his family and friends above his own.
No one who knew Daniel ever met a better father, husband, friend or neighbor.
Daniel is survived by: his high school sweetheart and wife of 37 years, Natalie Murphy of Johnson City, Tennessee; his son, Daniel M. Murphy of Los Angeles; his daughter, Amy Collas and her husband Joshua of Los Angeles; his loving mother, Rita Murphy of Biddeford; his brother, Michael Murphy and his wife Tina of Saco; and his sister, Diane Lapointe and her husband Robert of Old Orchard Beach.
The family will receive friends and relatives to share memories on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco, with a brief memorial service following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Stone Soup Food Pantry, 316 Main St., P.O. Box 186, Biddeford, ME 04005.
