SACO — Mae Burnham, 83, passed away at her residence on Jan. 14, 2015.

Mae was born on May 1, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Donald and Gladys Pulcipher Burnham.

Mae graduated from Pontiac Michigan High School in 1949 and Michigan State University in 1954. Later, she earned a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan.

Mae’s teaching career took her to Germany, where she taught for the Air Force and ended in Fairfax, Virginia, where she met and married Dr. Gerald Carson.

They travelled to many places, including Maine. They lived in Texas and Georgetown. They came to Maine and settled in Saco.

She attended the Senior College as well as a reading group which performed some plays. She attended the Unitarian Church. Along the way, she made many friends. She always enlivened the people she was with and they met once a week for breakfast.

She visited her sister Connie often and they made many trips. She was interested in art and loved to visit the Portland Museum, as well as Reny’s and flea markets. She was a jolly person in a crowd, and made everyone feel like they were special. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by: her sister, Beatrice Gree;.

She is survived by: her brother, Roy Burnham of Ohio, sisters, Joanne Hodges of California and Connie Baskett of Topsham; and 15 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at a later date. Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco, is in charge of the arrangements.
