BUXTON  — Boy Scout Orion DeLima of Saco and BSA Troop 371, has earned his Eagle Scout rank by constructing a sturdy kiosk at the Moses Woodman Preserve on Simpson Road in Buxton, which is owned by Saco Valley Land Trust. 

DeLima is a senior at Thornton Academy in Saco and enjoys playing music and participating in the school’s theater program. He plans to study cybersecurity and has been accepted to his top choice college, among others.

He joined scouting as a Tiger Cub in first grade and has participated ever since.

“Scouting has really given me an appreciation for nature and wildlife in general,” DeLima said.    

The Eagle Scout rank is earned through completing a specific, approved, project that is self-designed and requires candidates to work with other organizations, seek materials and expertise, organize Scouts and adults to complete the project, and answer questions about his project at his Eagle Board of Review. 
 
DeLima said he wishes to thank Deering Lumber and Evonik Industries for donations of material to complete this project.
 
The Woodman Preserve was donated to Saco Valley Land Trust by descendants of Melville Woodman and consists of 60 wooded acres between Simpson Road and the Saco River. The Preserve offers a trail to the river’s edge and several benches in scenic locations.  
Saco BSA Troop 371’s Scouts have created all the trails, built the benches and bridges, and perform seasonal maintenance at the site. Parking for two cars is available on the gated woods road near the kiosk.
