SANFORD — Leo J. O. Gagne, 70, of Sanford, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his home Wednesday afternoon on March 11, 2015.
He was born in Biddeford on Feb. 20, 1945, a son of Roland and Yvette (Picard) Gagne. He graduated from Biddeford High School, Class of 1963.
Leo served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965.
He was employed by Biddeford & Saco Paper Company for 20 years. In 1984, he moved to Sanford and established his own business, Spotless Cleaning, which he owned and operated until his recent retirement.
Leo was known for always helping and giving to others tirelessly. He was selfless and always put others’ needs before his own. There wasn’t anything he would not do for his family and friends. Everyone who came into his life he considered family. He never forgot a birthday. To truly understand Leo, you had to experience him.
His hobbies included gardening, playing cards and computer games. He also enjoyed being the ultimate prankster, always playing jokes on his neighbors, customers, family and friends.
He enjoyed daily walks around the pond with his beloved dog, Lucky.
Most of all, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren; they were his life.
He is preceded in death by: two brothers, Junior and Norman; and by one sister, Judy.
He is survived by: his partner of over 40 years, Thomas “Poochie” Deshaies; three children, Lori Gagne Flynn and her husband Richard of Saco, Michael Gagne and his wife Debra of Biddeford, and Anthony Gagne of Hollis; one embraced daughter, Melissa Theriault and her husband Rusty of Lyman; eight grandchildren, Aaron Flynn, Riley Flynn, Kayla Gagne, Noah Gagne, Sydney Gagne, Ian Theriault, Ava Theriault, and Emelia Theriault; his brothers and sisters, Monique Sylvestre, Roger Gagne, Dennis Gagne, Patrick Gagne, Donald Gagne, Priscilla Roy, Linda Gosselin, Connie Frechette, and Guy Gagne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, with a funeral service at 6 p.m. the same day at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco.
