BIDDEFORD — John V. Doran Sr., 72, of Biddeford, died June 4, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 8, 1943 in Biddeford, a son of William A. and Bernadette (Bourassa) Doran Sr.
John graduated from St. Mary’s School in Biddeford in 1957, then graduated Biddeford High School in 1961. John enjoyed an amazing high school career in sports. He won the Steve White trophy in 1961, participating in football, baseball and basketball while achieving high academic honors. He then graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1966. He was a practicing pharmacist for 42 years until retiring due to illness.
John began dating Judy Meehan during his freshman year in high school. They went on to be married in June of 1966 at St. Mary’s Church, and they enjoyed 49 wonderful years of marriage.
John was a member of St. Mary’s Parish (now Good Shepherd Parish). John had been a member of the Maine Pharmaceutical Association and was a former member of the Saco-Biddeford Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed using his handyman skills, “puttering” around his home while following his passion for local sports.
Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by: his brother, William A. Doran Jr. in 2011.
He is survived by: his wife, Judith Doran of Biddeford; his three sons, John V. Doran Jr. and his wife Laurie of Arundel, Jeffrey W. Doran, and Joseph F. Doran of Biddeford; as well as one sister, Nancy Croteau and her husband Roger of Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He had five grandchildren: Colby, Cooper, Ashley, Amelia, and Khloe. Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Joyce Haas, and Kathi Doran; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anne’s Chapel on St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
