BIDDEFORD — Georgia Alice “Babe” (Staples) Meehan passed away peacefully on the morning of June 21, 2015 at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook at the age of 95.
She was born on October 10, 1919 to Hazel Roxanne Grace Staples and Albert Leroy Staples.
Alice attended Biddeford High School and graduated with the class of 1937 and was voted Class Flirt. She worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator and the Vellux Department of the Pepperell Mills for over 25 years.
Alice lived her life as a big New England sports fan and loved watching westerns and her “stories” each afternoon on TV. She was also known for loving her cats, feeding the birds, tanning, yard work and people watching.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Frances Anthony Meehan; son, Joseph Meehan; and siblings, Merton, Rodney, Norman, and Arlene.
She is survived by: her children, Judith H. Doran of Biddeford, Michael Meehan and his wife Diane of Lyman, Terrance Meehan of Old Orchard Beach, Kelley Meehan Byrnes and her husband Timothy of Old Orchard Beach, and Kimberly Meehan-Brown and her husband Alan of Biddeford. She is also survived by: her grandchildren, John Doran Jr., Jeffrey Doran, Joseph Doran, Jessica Meehan Agreste, Kate Meehan, Hannah Byrnes, Brittany Brown, Tessa Byrnes, and Alannah Brown; as well as multiple great-grandchildren.
Alice will always be remembered as a kind, loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that always had sense of fashion and enjoyed her weekly manicures.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Springbrook Center staff and the Life Choices staff for their assistance and devotion to making Alice comfortable.
