
Gerry was born on the family farm in Skowhegan on Sept. 23,1935, the son of Edward and Alma Noreen Kaneen Savage. Gerry graduated from Skowhegan High school and participated in football and ski jumping, holding the record for the longest jump for over 50 years.
He served in the United States Air Force following the Korean Conflict and later in the Air National Guard flying cargo missions during the Vietnam War. After service to his country, Gerry worked with Eastern Airlines and then with AVCO defense contractor in Andover, Massachusetts.
While working with AVCO, he was connected with the first Gemini Space Capsule project. Gerry and his family moved to Maine in 1971 where he was employed in medical sales with Richards MFG and then later with OEC and Biomet Orthopedics.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography, which included developing his own photos. Gerry also enjoyed spending time at his camp at West Carry Pond and especially spending time with his family.
Gerry was a member and Past Master of Saco Masonic Lodge # 9.
Gerry is predeceased by the love of his life of 53 years Jennifer Ellen Chiaramida Savage and grandson Aleksei Legendre.
He is survived by two sons Gerald E. Savage Jr. and his wife Sandra of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and John K. Savage and his wife Michele of Old Orchard Beach; two daughters Cheryl Legendre of Saco, Ellen Lumb and her husband David of Winter Springs, Florida, and Jennifer Jo Savage of Saco; a sister Edith Blanchard of Norridgewock; eight grandchildren Christopher, Jonathan, Kayce, Lauren, Stephanie, Natalie, Hailey and Miranda and two great-grandchildren Liam and Nora.
Friends and relatives may call at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home 365 Main St. on Sunday Sept. 17, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. Visiting hours will conclude with a Masonic service being conducted by the officers and members of Saco Masonic Lodge, starting at 5:45 p.m.
A graveside service will be held Monday Sept. 18, 2017 at noon at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deering Park Section and concluded with US Air Force Military Honors. Gerald will be interred at Laurel Hill Cemetery beside his wife Jennifer and his grandson Alexsei.
